Are you looking for the
best
Elden Ring mods?
The beauty of mods is that they’re highly versatile tools that allow players to tweak their experience. In the case of Elden Ring, you might
wonder
why anyone would
want
to mod a game that’s so well-received. Well, if you find Soulslikes difficult, the Easy Mode mod is a surefire way to tone things down a notch. Some players might consider this goes too far, so why not remove the death mechanic, which stops you from losing your Runes instead?
What makes the best Elden Ring mods stand out is that they have the power to drastically improve someone’s experience of the open-world game. Whether you want to change the way ranged weapons work, or you want the option to pause Elden Ring, we’ve got the mods for you. Here’s everything you need to try out the best Elden Ring mods, including the seamless co-op, the Convergence overhaul mod, and more.
Now that the Elden Ring Shadow of Erdtree release date is here, we should point out that some mods listed below need updating first. We have a few overhaul mods in here that require some time before they’ll be compatible with the expansion. Aside from that, we’ve verified that every mod in this list is either compatible right now or will be updated for the expansion at some stage.
The best Elden Ring mods are:
Seamless Co-op
Elden Ring adopts an online multiplayer system like
Dark Souls
, allowing you to summon other players for jolly cooperation against difficult bosses. However, once the enemy’s been slain, these temporary allies are automatically booted back to their world until the next time you can summon them. While the system made a bit more sense in the relatively linear worlds of Dark Souls, the Lands Between is a staggeringly enormous domain, and journeying across it can be a somewhat lonely experience.
That’s where
Seamless Co-Op mod
comes in. The usual restrictions for online co-operators are lifted while this mod is active, allowing you to connect with
up
to five other players simultaneously without the threat of disconnection. Well, in theory. It’s worth noting that Seamless Co-Op is still in beta and, therefore, not without its flaws. Still, this in-demand mod receives regular updates and bug fixes that bring it closer to delivering the definitive seamless co-op experience. Browse through our Elden Ring bosses guide for some handy pointers when going head-to-head with some of the most powerful enemies in the Lands Between.
This is one of the most used Elden Ring mods, so it’s no surprise that players will want to know when it becomes compatible with the latest expansion. LukeYui, the creator of the mod, has explained that they need time to get Seamless Co-op working with the DLC, but they are hard at work and will post updates on Nexus Mods and Discord. The most recent update from LukeYui says they intend to have a public build out of the Seamless-Co-op mod towards the end of the week.
Elden Ring Reforged
Elden Ring Reforged
is another game overhaul mod that describes itself as a “thorough revision of Elden Ring’s balance and mechanics”. It aims to create something different rather than increase or lower the difficulty. There are new bosses to fight, with alterations to spells and skills, as well as a new optional Fortune system that grants the Ashen One new themed abilities.
Not just the bosses and items have been reworked; core combat mechanics also see tweaks. You can now time your attacks so that they cost less stamina upon use, as well as duck and deflect incoming blows. And for those who like to challenge themselves, there’s even an option to bring back any boss in the game for round two. This mod is constantly getting new stuff with every update, and we can’t wait to see what’s next. Not only has Reforged been updated for the new expansion, it now requires it to access its unique features.
Pause The Game
The Souls games are notoriously strict about prohibiting players from pausing the game at any point. Entering the menus in Elden Ring doesn’t stop your game, so if an enemy wanders near you while organizing your inventory, you might find yourself in a dangerous situation.
You can pause the game in Elden Ring without downloading mods by opening the menu explanation function. Still, the modded version is better because it does exactly what you expect without jumping through hoops. The
Pause the Game mod
allows you to stop the game whenever you enter the menus, giving you the freedom to look through your items without worrying about being randomly attacked. We can confirm this mod works with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
PS4 and PS5 Controller UI
Are you sick of the Xbox One controller button prompts when using a PlayStation controller? The
PS4 and PS5 Controller UI mod
lets you manually change the Xbox button presets with the DualShock 4 or DualSense controller ones, though this does require more effort than the rest of the mods on this list.
You’re going to need
Yabber
and
ER.BDT Tool
to unpack and repack the Elden Ring executable. YouTuber Weeb Flex has created a step-by-step video tutorial that runs through how to install this mod. Once it is up and running, your button in-game prompts will change to your favorite controller. The PS4 and PS5 Controller UI mod has been updated to support the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
Unlock The Framerate
Playing any game at a high refresh rate is a wonderful experience, giving users a significantly smoother experience overall. Elden Ring doesn’t feature support for frame rates higher than 60fps. However, it runs on the same engine as Sekiro and Dark Souls 3, which both have framerate unlockers. Within the first day of release, the
Unlock The Framerate mod
was among the first to hit the Nexus Mods website.
Unlike Dark Souls 3, the physics in Elden Ring aren’t tied to the frame rate, so playing at 120Hz or above doesn’t hinder the gameplay experience. Running Elden Ring at a higher frame rate can help improve reaction times; this is important in a Souls game where one hit from an Elden Ring boss can be the difference between life and death. Take a look at our Elden Ring system requirements article to see if your computer can push the game beyond 60fps. This mod appears to be compatible with the expansion, but you have to run the game in a borderless window.
Ultrawide Fixes
Unlike the blinding white Bandai Namco logo which was patched out of the game, the devs refuse to add official ultrawide support to Elden Ring. Luckily, there are several fixes to
remove the black bars
,
remove the vignette
, and
increase the animation distance
to make Elden Ring run correctly.
We should note that while having the option to play the game using an ultrawide aspect ratio technically doesn’t count as cheating, we wouldn’t recommend playing online using these mods. That said, players have been using this mod for the past two years now without any negative consequences, so you might be alright (but we did warn you!). The Ultrawide Fixes mod does work with the latest update, but it produces an error if you
launch
it alongside the DLSS frame generation mod.
All-In-One Save File
Lost your save file and can’t be bothered to replay the entire game again, or do you want to try out some of the rarest items in Elden Ring? The
All In One Save File
cuts out the middleman entirely, giving you exactly what you want so you can experience the game as the conqueror of the world. Okay, that might be a bit too far, but you get to go through the world as a level 125/150 character, so you’re strong enough to take anyone down.
It’s worth pointing out that this can be used with the Save Manager mod below to play through the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Despite the advantages this save gives you, players have not been banned for using it, so this by far the easiest way to create a character without having to replay the entire game again.
Shadow of the Erdtree Save File
This
Level 1 and 713 save
will get you banned online, so you have to be playing offline and with the anti-cheat disabled to use it. This Shadow of the Erdtree save provides you with access to everything the expansion has to offer. That’s right, we’re talking every Scadutree Blessing, every sorcery, and the newest weapons that everyone wants to try out.
The best part is that the save takes you to the beginning of the game, letting you play with the newest stuff right away on a brand new playthrough.
Save Manager
One of the biggest reasons newbies shy away from mods is because they’re concerned about losing their game save, or they’re worried about receiving a ban. With the
Elden Ring Save Manager
, you can back up your save to ensure it’s always safe, and that’s not the only thing this application is capable of. You can adjust your save file to give yourself any item in the game, change your level to meet the PvP meta, and even rename your characters. If you’re just getting into mods for the first time, you’re going to want to use this save manager first.
Magic Overhaul (Sorceries)
Compared to the best Elden Ring spells, a large portion of the sorceries are underpowered and use too much mana. The endgame Mage in Elden Ring typically uses the same five spells in their arsenal, but it doesn’t have to be this way. The
Magic Overhaul mod
aims to rebalance some of the worst spells in the game to make them viable in combat.
Some balance changes range from tweaks to the damage values of each projectile to new targeting properties to ensure the spells hit multiple enemies. If you’ve wanted to go through the game again as a Mage, this mod is essential, as it opens up a range of previously unusable options. The mod creator has confirmed they will be updating this mod for the expansion at some stage, so stay tuned for that.
Easy Mode
Elden Ring may be easier than the Souls games, but it’s still one of the hardest games we’ve played in a long time. If you need it, you can tone down the difficulty using this
Easy Mode mod
, giving you three variations of easy mode to pick from. Whether you want to receive less damage and deal more, or you would like to be rewarded more runes per kill, you can pick the perfect easy mode.
Many players have thanked the creators of this mod for their hard work, as they wouldn’t have been able to get through the game without it. There’s no shame in toning down the difficulty, especially in a game as tough as Elden Ring. Blast your way through the Lands Between with the ‘Personal Edit’ easy mode, giving you plenty of advantages when crafting materials and upgrading your weapons, on top of all the other adjustments in the previous easy mode mods.
Disable Rune Loss on Death
One of the most frustrating mechanics in Elden Ring is when you lose a substantial number of Runes that otherwise would have resulted in numerous level-ups. The
Disable Rune Loss on Death mod
removes that frustration entirely, allowing you to go through the game without being scared to die after clearing out a difficult area. This mod doesn’t necessarily make Elden Ring any easier, but it does make the game less frustrating overall. Fortunately, you can continue to use this mod while playing the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
Convergence
Elden Ring Convergence mod
is a huge rebalancing patch, adding new spells, gear, and weapons while also tweaking the bosses, replacing disappointing encounters with brand-new ones. It also changes when you get items such as the Spectral Steed Whistle. There’s also a new portal-based fast travel system that requires you to defeat Erdtree Sentries or Erdtree Avatars to activate. Of course, this is barely scraping the surface, and you can get an idea of just how many changes there are by consulting the
Convergence feature list
.
It’s unclear if and when Convergence is going to support Shadow of the Erdtree any time soon. The developers have been quiet on their social media pages, but we have to assume they will want to support the new update at some point. Stay tuned for any updates on this overhaul mod, meanwhile, you may need to create a separate folder if you intend to play the expansion alongside Convergence.
Item and Enemy Randomizer
So, you’ve slain the final boss and become Elden Lord. What’s next? If you’re not quite ready to leave Elden Ring behind, the
Item and Enemy Randomizer
is the perfect mod for a second playthrough with a bit of a twist. This mod does what it says on the tin: all enemies and items in the game are completely random, including enemy drops, shop items, and even your class loadout.
However, it isn’t just a case of the mod of throwing every item that exists into a tombola. Item and Enemy Randomizer has a careful logic when it comes to key items tied to progressions, ensuring they remain in important, unmissable locations to keep your playthrough ticking over smoothly. This mod is currently incompatible with the expansion, but the creator has confirmed an update is in the works.
Grand Merchant
The nomadic merchants are some of the most reliable and helpful NPCs you’ll encounter in the Lands Between, offering various items they’re willing to hand over in exchange for any Runes you have going spare. With the
Grand Merchant mod
installed, you can purchase
every
item that appears in-game from Merchant Kale, located at the Church of Elleh in Limgrave.
This allows you to access the best Elden Ring armor, spells, and other equipment for specific builds as early as possible and retrieve lost items at any point. If your world’s Merchant Kale has met his maker, do not worry – Grand Merchant also includes a ‘simple version’ that allows you to craft items directly from the Crafting Menu at no cost. Starting a challenge run has never been so easy. If you want to switch up your build drastically, our guide explaining how to respec in Elden Ring will be useful. The creator of this mod has warned not to use it with the current patch right now, but it will be updated to support the expansion.
How to install Elden Ring mods
Before you attempt to install any Elden Ring mods, we highly recommend backing up your current save file first. You need to download
Anti-Cheat Toggler and Offline Launcher
to ensure you can safely play offline using mods without putting your account at risk.
Copy the contents of the Anti-Cheat Toggler into the ‘Game’ folder in the Elden Ring directory. Run the ‘toggle_anti_cheat.exe’ application to disable Easy Anti-Cheat — you will see the message “Inappropriate activity detected” when you launch the game. If you want to switch back to the unmodded version of Elden Ring, run ‘toggle_anti_cheat.exe’ again to reactivate the anti-cheat system.
To run multiple mods simultaneously, copy the contents of
Elden Mod Loader
into the ‘Game’ folder inside the Elden Ring directory. After extracting the zip file — place all of your mods into the ‘mods’ folder to load them all at once.
That’s everything you need to get to grips with the best Elden Ring mods. If you’re looking to mod your game before hitting up the expansion, be sure to read our Elden Ring DLC start guide and our DLC recommended level article beforehand. We also recommend looking at our best Elden Ring builds guide to ensure you go into the expansion with the strongest equipment available.
